The Bed‑Stuy
Bullseye

Every address on both rosters, plotted on the real Brooklyn street grid against the bars we’re considering. Rings radiate from the team’s mathematical centre — the point that minimises total travel, which lands almost exactly on Julie’s front door. Seven players will walk or bike; the other eight depend on transit, and that is the group the venue has to serve.

Street geometry © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), rendered directly into the page — no tile server. Projection is equirectangular; rings are straight-line distance, not travel time. Player pins are deliberately approximate — snapped to a 200 m grid and shown by street and neighbourhood only, never by building number. Distances are rounded to match. The league boundary is traced from the commissioner’s map against its scale bar and runs on a diagonal: its eastern edge sits near Marcy Ave at Myrtle latitude but out at Stuyvesant Ave by Fulton St.

The eight who need transit

These are the trips the venue actually has to serve. Every line listed here runs 24 hours.

Four need the G, two need the A/C, two need the L or the B54. No single bar sits on top of all three — but several sit within a short walk of both the G and the A/C, which covers six of the eight, and the Myrtle Ave corridor picks up the last two. The venue test is therefore simple: can you walk to both the G and the C from the front door?

Who walks or bikes

Seven players, no transit constraint — they drop out of the venue calculation entirely.

The bars on the map

Seven still in play, ranked 1–7 by how likely each is to actually host us after the 19 September crawl — firsthand evidence, not the distance model that ordered this list before. (The full CSV ranks every venue considered, so its numbers run higher.) Ownership checked on each. Two boards is a preference, not a requirement — one board is workable. Two lanes want roughly 10–12 ft of wall and 11 ft of depth; one wants about half the wall.

#BarAddresskmOwnershipFoodTuesdayTransit 8Space — two boards preferred
1The Layup47 5th Ave4.35Independent (likely) — ownership changed this yearClassic bar foodUnverified6 / 8Seen in person — the best prospect of the ten. Two separate spots where a board would fit. The bartender we spoke to plays for 773 Lounge in Division 4 and has been pushing his own management for a board for a while. A board here would pull casual play from the regulars, not just league nights. The blocker is reaching ownership, not the room.
2Bilt Bar583 Vanderbilt Ave4.13Independent (likely) — single locationCharcuterie, no kitchenUnverified2 / 8Seen in person. The board would take the back wall where two pinball tables now sit. Room for one board only, and the area is tight for a full team. Co-owner Laney plays darts herself and is interested — she can’t be the one to run it, but she wants it in the bar. Replied on Instagram; we have her number.
3The Dram Shop339 9th St5.30Independent (likely) — single locationSports bar kitchenUnverified4 / 8It has hosted a darts team before. Mac Diller, met at Bilt Bar, played on a team that ran out of this address. Darts, pool and shuffleboard, and the Brooklyn APA Pool League runs from here too. Not visited and no contact yet — and at 5.30 km it is further out than the old home bar.
4Branded Saloon603 Vanderbilt Ave4.18Independent — queer owned and operatedFull kitchenClear — comedy runs upstairs2 / 8Seen in person — the best room of the ten. The basement is the space, not the upstairs we had assumed: it just lost its pool table and the bar is openly looking for an activity to replace it. Tuesday comedy runs upstairs and would not collide. No reply to our email yet. A queer bar — best suited as the home of a queer or, at minimum, queer-friendly team.
5McMahon’s Public House39 5th Ave4.35Independent — single location, took over O’Connor’sFull kitchen11am–2am — masses of slack6 / 8Seen in person — more raw wall than anything else on the list. A large private upstairs event room that would take one board comfortably and arguably several. Two catches: the room feels like a corporate event space even though the ownership is not — we have both owners on their mobiles — and a board behind a closed upstairs door gets no passing trade. A question for the league’s taste, not a space problem.
6Halyards406 3rd Ave4.91Independent — single location, since 2011Beer and whiskey; kitchen unconfirmed4pm–2am — Tuesday unconfirmed4 / 8Board confirmed — and that is the problem. It hangs over the pool table, which is in demand, and the cellar door the barbacks use is right beside the throw line. Sightlines fit about eight people, so most of a team could not watch. Workable if the league is desperate; a standing source of conflict otherwise.
7Union Hall702 Union St4.52Small local group — sister venue to FloydFull kitchen — open till 10pm Tue4pm–2am — the bocce league runs Mondays4 / 8Not visited on the crawl. The room is real — CJ has stood in it, 5,000 sq ft with two indoor bocce courts, and it already hosts an outside league. But they run a great deal of programming already, and the read is that darts would be one thing too many. Unresolved rather than ruled out.

Branded Saloon’s Tuesday holds up. Their public calendar holds 4,312 events going back to 2010, and Tuesday is comfortably their quietest night — two Tuesday bookings in all of 2026 against 24 Sundays and 16 Mondays. The visit turned up one thing the calendar did not show: a Tuesday comedy night. It runs upstairs, and the room we want is the basement, so the two do not collide.

The secondhand room did not survive the visit. For weeks this page carried Fulton Grand as the one candidate whose back room someone had actually stood in — the owner of Moot Bar had described a space that once held shuffleboard, and a shuffleboard table is twenty-two feet long, so the depth seemed beyond argument. In person the bar is cramped and there is nowhere to hang a board. Meanwhile The Layup, which every listing said had nine screens and no darts, turned out to have two workable spots and a league player behind the bar. Walking in beat every source we had.

Ruled out

Thirty-six venues considered. Most were dropped; one was referred to the league for a different team. Kept here with reasons so nobody re-suggests them.

BarWhereWhy it’s out
Greenwood Park555 7th AveNot for us — passed to the league for another team. Recommended by Laney at Bilt Bar, who knows the owner. It is a genuinely good darts venue: 13,000 sq ft, a kitchen, three bocce courts and a working events business. But at an estimated 6.18 km/player it is the furthest thing we have assessed, and the space is principally open-air. The distance objection is ours, not the venue’s — our roster sits in Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill. For a team based around South Slope, Sunset Park or Bay Ridge it is well placed, so it has been referred rather than dropped.
The Emerson561 Myrtle AveSeen in person — it is a pool bar. At 6pm on a Tuesday ten people were sitting with cues in hand waiting for the table. The only wall a board could go on is the one the pool table occupies, so darts would have to displace the bar’s main draw and its most loyal crowd. Hard to imagine them agreeing, and harder to imagine it working if they did. The most painful loss of the crawl: it led this list on distance, transit and every written description of its size.
Fulton Grand1011 Fulton StSeen in person — no room, and not the vibe. A genuinely cool bar, but cramped, with nowhere to hang a board and none of the feel a four-hour standing night needs. They did reply on Instagram. This was the venue the whole page rested on: the shuffleboard back room came secondhand from the owner of Moot Bar and did not exist as described.
Black Forest Brooklyn733 Fulton StSeen in person — no wall real estate. We went in with high hopes; the communal-table beer hall has the floor but not the walls, and a darts night would sit oddly in it. No response on Instagram and we reached no one in charge. Costly on transit, where it scored 8 of 8 — the best of any candidate.
Hartley’s14 Putnam AveSeen in person. Small room, and not a bar that would want a darts team. Great Guinness, wrong room.
Glorietta Baldy’s502 Franklin AveSeen in person. Small, and the wrong feel for a weekly night. The pinball machines were never floor-space evidence.
Washington Commons748 Washington AveLow on vibe, and 0 of 8 on transit — too far from both the G and the A/C.
Doris1088 Fulton StNot the vibe we’re after.
The Crown Inn724 Franklin AveReached out — not interested. And the back area we would have needed is completely outside, which is no use for a season that runs through winter. Trivia on top. This was the commissioner’s contact’s strongest recommendation — “by far the most likely to work” — and it did not survive first contact.
Fourth Avenue Pub76 4th AveLooks fun, but clearly not enough room for a board. A costly loss: at 4.32 km/player it had the best distance of the whole Gowanus and Slope cluster — better than Union Hall, the Crown Inn and The Layup — and the project notes put it in the same ownership team as Fulton Grand, so one intro might have opened both.
High Dive243 5th AveIt does not actually have darts. It surfaced on a Yelp “dart bars” list, but what it has is pinball and vintage arcade games — the same inference that already failed twice here. A pinball machine is a wall footprint, not a floor one.
Littlefield635 Sackett StLarge room, but a working music venue that books weeknights.
The Bell House149 7th StLarge main room, but a working music and comedy venue that books weeknights, and at 5.22 km/player further out than the old home bar. Same owners as Union Hall.
Sound + Fury Brewery141 Lawrence StWrong vibe — we want something divier — and too far at 4.48. The largest room found inside the boundary: 6,000 sq ft, capacity 300, a brick-oven kitchen, and half a kilometre from Hoyt–Schermerhorn, the only station in Brooklyn on the A, C and G.
Threes Brewing333 Douglass StA chain — five sites, past the three-to-four venue local group the screen allows — plus the same vibe objection. Open Tuesdays noon to midnight with purpose-built event rooms, and walking distance for two of the players.
Fulton Hall250 Ashland PlNo visible play space in the photos. Its owner, Vortex Hospitality, runs four venues — the same scale as two candidates still in play, so ownership is not the reason. Had the best station access of anything found; worth a second look if the space question can be settled in person.
Sharlene’s353 Flatbush AveNo room for a board. A long narrow room with the bar down one side and tables down the other, leaving only the walkway between — and a lane needs depth perpendicular to a wall, which is the one dimension a shotgun room does not have. Pinball eats more of the wall. Good transit and location could not fix the geometry.
Chilo’s323 Franklin AveNot enough room inside for one board, let alone two — clear from the photos, so it did not warrant a visit. Everything else about it was strong: independent under Dave Zirin, a full kitchen, and a winterized year-round yard.
Doppelgänger415 Myrtle AveNo room for a board anywhere in the bar, from the photos. Expensive at 3.71 km/player and two blocks from The Emerson. This address sat on the list as Cardiff Giant, which closed in March 2026 — no source had ever described the interior, and now it has been judged.
Captain Dan’s Good Time Tavern497 Greene AveNo room for a lane, and trivia already holds Tuesday at 7:30. Two strikes on the two screens that matter, so not worth the trip. The loss stings on paper — 8 of 8 on transit and third-closest of anything considered.
C’mon Everybody325 Franklin AveBest back room found, but it is a working music venue and books Tuesdays.
Rustik Tavern471 DeKalb AveClosed Mondays and Tuesdays, and more a comfort-food restaurant than a pub — not somewhere that would want a board on the wall. Costly on location: at 3.62 km/player it is the second-closest venue assessed, behind only The Emerson.
Tip Top Bar & Grill432 Franklin AveOpen Thursday to Sunday only — shut on Tuesdays.
All Night Skate54 Rockaway AveOutside the league boundary by roughly 2 km. An entire arcade room and a balcony — the best raw space found anywhere.
Wonderville1186 BroadwayOutside the boundary.
Turtles All the Way Down236 Malcolm X BlvdOutside the boundary by about 0.5 km.
Therapy Wine Bar 2.0260 Malcolm X BlvdOutside the boundary; also a wine bar.
Bar LunÀtico486 Halsey StOn or just past the boundary; “very narrow” and has a stage.
Project Parlor742 Myrtle AveClosed. Had the best geographic score of anything found — exactly the team’s optimum.
Swell Dive → Kubo1013 Bedford AveSwell Dive closed in 2025, then Kubo, a Filipino bar, opened in the space in February 2026 — and it now shows as temporarily closed. Worth rechecking if it reopens: at 3.65 km/player this address beats Fulton Grand on distance.
The Low Post1452 Fulton StClosed.
Lover’s Rock419 Tompkins AveClosed in 2025.
Hanson Dry925 Fulton StClosed. Was recommended by the commissioner’s contact.
Brooklyn Public House1048 Bedford AveClosed.
Dynaco1112 Bedford AveTemporarily closed. Had a back room — worth rechecking if it reopens.
Bed-Vyne Brew370 Tompkins AveSources conflict on whether it is still trading.

Seven of the thirty-two were simply closed — including Project Parlor, which sat exactly on the team’s mathematical optimum. Published bar guides go stale fast, so confirm a bar is trading before travelling to it. Most of those dropped on space or vibe were ruled out by walking in rather than by searching — listings describe drinks and atmosphere, never floor plans. Chilo’s, Captain Dan’s, Sharlene’s and Doppelgänger are the exceptions — between photographs, a posted trivia night and a room whose shape rules itself out, none of the four earned a visit.

Non-negotiables

Four screens a venue has to pass, and one strong preference.

ScreenWhyWhat it has cost us
Not a chainThe league exists to support small businesses. A local group of a few venues is fine; a corporation running dozens of bars is not.Threes Brewing — five sites is past the three-to-four venue local group the screen allows. Everything else checked is independent or a small local group.
Inside the league boundaryFixed by the commissioner’s mapFive bars, including All Night Skate’s arcade room
Room to throw~11 ft of depth and about 5 ft of clear wall per board. One board works; two is the preference. And it has to be indoors — the season runs Tuesdays through the winter, so a yard, patio or beer garden is not play space however big it is.Hartley’s, Glorietta Baldy’s, Chilo’s, Sharlene’s, Doppelgänger and Fourth Avenue Pub — all too tight for even one lane; Sharlene’s on room shape rather than raw size. The crawl added Fulton Grand and Black Forest, and The Emerson, where the only usable wall is the one the pool table already owns
Free on Tuesdays3–4.5 hours, 15–16 peopleCaptain Dan’s, C’mon Everybody and the Crown Inn, all already booked; Tip Top and Rustik Tavern shut entirely
VibeA weekly darts night has to suit the bar. A restaurant that would not want a board on its wall is a no however big the floor, and so is a room that is wrong for a loud, standing, four-hour night. This is a judgement, not a measurement — which is why it is CJ’s to make and not a search result’s.Doris, Washington Commons, Sound + Fury, Threes Brewing and Rustik Tavern, and now Black Forest and Fulton Grand from the crawl — seven venues, five of them with ample room

Published listings cannot answer the two that matter. Bar guides describe drinks and atmosphere, never floor plans or who owns the place — which is why every ruling-out so far has come from a person, not a search. Treat every remaining unknown as genuinely unknown.
